Zambia’s community school movement started in the 1980s as a response to the scarcity of schools. The most vulnerable children go to community schools usually because their parents cannot pay the high enrolment fee in the government schools or because the government school is too far away.

This documentary about the ECSITE project in Zambia illustrates the challenges that community schools face. The documentary shows some interventions from the project. The ECSITE project, which ended in 2015, aimed at raising the standards of teaching in community schools by improving the quality of teachers and access to teaching and learning materials. In this way, the needs of the most vulnerable children were met.
