South Africa started implementing Inclusive Education (White Paper 6) in 2001. What is their vision on inclusive education? What steps have they taken since then? How do they put policy into practice? What successes and bottlenecks do they experience? What challenges do they face today? In this video message, Robyn Beere, Director of Inclusive Education South Africa, tells more about inclusive education in South Africa and which role her organisation plays.

Flanders learns from South Africa... and vice versa

Robyn Beere was part of a South African delegation of educational experts who visited Flanders from 24 to 28 October 2016 for an in-depth exchange on inclusive education. During this visit, the delegation met various actors of the Flemish education sector, resulting in a wide variety of mutual inspiring learning experiences. Everyone agreed on one thing: the question is not whether education should be inclusive, but how we can make education as inclusive as possible. Moreover, it becomes clear that inclusion must be embedded in a broader policy on diversity. Our backpack with tips equity in education has become heavier again.
